NEWS RELEASE

November 6, 2023 (Algonquin Territory, Ottawa) – The First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC) and the University of Ottawa’s Positive Energy (PE) program are pleased to announce the launch of a new partnership between the two organizations. The partnership features collaboration on research, training and outreach for policy, regulation, and Indigenous-led involvement in major projects.

“FNMPC is proud to be formalizing a partnership with the University of Ottawa’s Positive Energy program whose mandate fosters cross-country collaboration as we work towards achieving our net zero goals” says Chief Sharleen Gale, Chair of FNMPC. “This partnership strengthens FNMPC’s ability to expand its thought leadership and research focus on issues of interest to our First Nations members.”

“Positive Energy is honoured to partner with the FNMPC, whose leadership in advancing meaningful partnerships and Indigenous-led approaches to major projects is transforming the landscape of energy projects in Canada,” says Professor Monica Gattinger, Founding Chair of Positive Energy. “For the last five years, Positive Energy and the FNMPC have collaborated on various aspects of each another’s programs. This partnership formally recognizes and expands our work together. It will strengthen Positive Energy’s research and engagement on major projects and will offer training opportunities for Indigenous students at the university to participate in both programs.”
